
Watland Set to Face Woodchucks

Madison, Wis. - After a game that saw a combined 33 runs and 39 hits, the Madison Mallards (2-8, 30-16) are back in action today as they take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks (8-3, 20-27) at 1:05 PM at Warner Park. Gates will open at 11:30 AM and the game features The Great Dane Troll Maynard bobblehead giveaway and Grandparents Appreciation Day presented by Ho-Chunk Gaming. Also, the ballgame features the SSM Health an apple a day giveaway and alternate jersey auction.
The Mallards fell 21-12 last night to the Woodchucks but had some notable offensive performances. Six Mallards collected multiple hits and third baseman Tyler Plantier (Richmond) crushed his division-leading eleventh home run. Overall, the Mallards now own a .296 clip against the Woodchucks this season.
Probable Pitchers
The Mallards plan to start Justin Watland (San Jose State) today against the Woodchucks. Watland has made six starts this season and owns a 3.77 ERA through 31.0 innings. Watland has tallied 29 strikeouts while issuing only 14 walks. Earlier this summer, he strung together four straight starts in which the righty did not allow an earned run. In his only previous start against Wisconsin, Watland worked 4.0 innings and allowed three runs on six hits in a Mallards 6-4 victory.
To oppose Watland, the Woodchucks are sending Greg Dunham to the mound. Dunham is 2-0 with a 1.12 ERA through three starts so far this season. The righty has tossed 16.0 innings and has struck out 18 batters. He worked 7.0 innings in his last start, allowing only one hit and zero runs while striking out eight against the Rockford Rivets.
Players to Watch
Mallards third baseman Tyler Plantier went deep last night and knocked in three runs. Plantier, who is one of eight Mallards All-Stars, now has 11 bombs and 39 RBIs this summer and holds an OPS of .992.
CenterfielderDrew Campbell (Louisviile) had three hits in last night's loss to raise his average to .328. Campbell is also a Mallards All-Star selection and has 44 hits through 29 games this season.
