Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI. - The visiting Rockford Rivets (15-11) posted a seven-run second inning and the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (9-17) could not recover from the early deficit in an 8-4 loss from Joannes Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Rivets sweep the two-game set and clinch the 2018 season series over the Frogs.
Rockford drew seven walks in the second inning, jumping out to a 4-0 lead on two RBI walks, a wild pitch and passed ball. The Rivets then tallied their first hit on a RBI single to stretch the advantage out to 5-0. A two-run double from Wyatt Mascarella completed the offensive surge to make it a 7-0 game.
Green Bay got on the board with a two-run blast by Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) to trim the margin down to 7-2. The Bullfrogs offense was shutout for the next four frames of action.
The Rivets tallied an insurance run on a RBI single in the eighth inning to extend the advantage out to 8-2. Green Bay broke its scoreless inning streak in the bottom of the eighth, plating a pair of runs to cut the deficit down to 8-4.
In the inning, Green Bay compiled three straight hits to load the bases with nobody out followed by two RBI ground outs from Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) and Collin Luty (Junior, Northern Kentucky) to make it an 8-4 game. The Bullfrogs had runners at first and second base with one out in the ninth inning, but a game-ending double play secured the victory for Rockford.
Mihalik topped the Green Bay hitting charts, finishing 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Eddy Gonzalez (Junior, Incarnate Word) went 3-for-4, while Rudy Aguilar (Sophomore, St. Johns) contributed a 2-for-3 effort with one run scored.
Rockford starting pitcher Chase Kueter earned the win, improving to 3-1. Green Bay starter McKinley Moore (Sophomore, Arkansas - Little Rock) took the loss, falling to 0-1.
The Bullfrogs received a solid combined pitching effort from Ben Keizer (Sophomore, Michigan), Justin Bureau (Senior, Ave Maria Univ.) and Zach Autin (Sophomore, Nicholls State). The trio tossed a combined 5 2/3 shutout innings with four hits allowed and seven strikeouts. Keizer and Autin had three strikeouts each.
The Bullfrogs open the fifth week of the regular season tomorrow night, hosting the Battle Creek Bombers for the first of a two-game series. First pitch is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start from Titletown. A live video webcast of tomorrow's contest can be streamed online through the official Northwoods League website.
