Bullfrogs Late Rally Falls Short in Tough Loss to Dock Spiders

Green Bay, WI. - The visiting Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (24-17, 3-3) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back, securing the 7-5 victory over the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (13-29, 1-5) at Joannes Stadium Monday evening. The Dock Spiders clinch the season series over the Bullfrogs, improving to 5-1 against Green Bay this season.

Fond du Lac tallied an early three-spot in the second inning with a RBI double by Kiambu Fentress followed by two more runs scoring on an error to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage. The Dock Spiders added another run in the third frame on a RBI single from Mitch Boe to make it a 4-0 contest.

The Bullfrogs got on the board with a RBI ground out by Blake Nelson (Junior, Univ. of Michigan) in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the deficit down to 4-1. A run-scoring base hit from Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo (Freshman, Navarro College) in the fifth inning trimmed the margin in half at 4-2.

The Dock Spiders tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on a wild pitch and RBI triple from Tyler Wardwell to stretch the advantage to 6-2. Fond du Lac's Alex Erro then tallied a run-scoring single in the eighth inning to extend the margin to 7-2.

Green Bay made it interesting in the bottom of the eighth as a RBI single from Adrian Damla (Sophomore, UC Irvine) made it 7-3. Nelson then grounded a base-hit up the middle to plate two more runs and trim the deficit down to 7-5. The Bullfrogs had runners at first and second base with one out in the ninth inning, but Fond du Lac turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

Damla led the Green Bay offense with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with one run scored. Nelson drove home a game-high three RBIs finishing 1-for-3. Cardoza-Oquendo was 1-for-4 with a RBI.

Fond du Lac starting pitcher Austin Wagner earned the win, improving to 4-1. Bullfrogs starter Hugh Chapman (Freshman, Georgia Tech) took the loss, falling to 2-3. Dock Spiders reliever Carter Brown earned his second save of the season.

The Green Bay Bullfrogs hit the road tomorrow night for the opener of a two-game series against the host Wisconsin Woodchucks. The Frogs venture to Athletic Park in Wausau, WI for the first time this summer. First pitch is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start.
