Brantford Bulldogs News Release
Regina, Saskatchewan. An historic win for the Hamilton Bulldogs as they won their first game at the 100th Mastercard Memorial Cup with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the WHL Champion Swift Current Broncos Monday night.
The Bulldogs completely dominated the 1st period and cashed in early on a power-play as Mackenzie Entwistle (1) jumped on a rebound at 5:49 to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead.
Another good period for the Bulldogs in the 2nd, but it was the Broncos that would tie up the game 1-1 with a power-play goal of their own at 9:26.
Hamilton was all over Swift Current in the 3rd, but came up empty time and time against Broncos goalie Stuart Skinner. That was until Marian Studenic (1) took a pass down low and put a quick wrister in for the winning goal at 17:59 before Skinner could get across.
3 STARS:
1) Stuart Skinner (SC) 2) Mackenzie Entwistle (HAM) 3) Kaden Fulcher (HAM)
With the win the Bulldogs improve to 1-1 while the Broncos drop to 0-2. Hamilton is assured of no less than an appearance in the tie breaker game and still have a chance at 1st place overall that would give them a bye into Sunday's final.
The Bulldogs take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titans Tuesday night at 10 pm Central, 8 pm Eastern.
