Bulldogs Look to Clinch a Playoff Spot this Weekend
February 6, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brantford Bulldogs News Release
The 2017-18 season has been a stellar one for the Hamilton Bulldogs. With more than half of the season in the books, the Bulldogs currently sit first in the Eastern Conference by 11 points. With only 17 games remaining in the regular season and being ahead of 9th place by 30 points, the playoffs are not far out of sight. This weekend the Bulldogs could clinch a playoff spot for the second time since relocating from Belleville.
The Peterborough Petes currently occupy the 9th spot in the East with 17 games remaining. The most amount of points that the Petes could finish the season with as of right now is 76 with 35 wins. The Bulldogs and Petes each play three games between Thursday and Sunday. The Petes will face off against the Owen Sound Attack, North Bay Battalions, and Oshawa Generals; while the Bulldogs will face the Barrie Colts, Kitchener Rangers and Sault St. Marie Greyhounds. Here are a few scenarios that could occur this weekend that would allow for Hamilton to mathematically clinch a playoff spot:
The Bulldogs win 2 games
The Petes lose 2 games in regulation
Petes lose two games in overtime or shootout and the Bulldogs win one
In short, the Bulldogs need 4 points to clinch a playoff spot, or the Peterborough Petes need to forfeit 4 points from losses.
