Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. Coming into Thursday's game at the North Bay Memorial Gardens the Hamilton Bulldogs were on a roll, with back to back shutout victories over the Niagara IceDogs but North Bay would quickly end that streak.
At 1:20 of the opening frame Kyle Jackson would slide the puck into the right circle for Mitchell Russell to record his 4th goal of the season giving the Battalion an early 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs would begin to turn the tide, killing off a pair of North Bay power-plays and recording 7 shots but head to the 1st intermission down a goal.
The second period would see the Bulldogs take control quicker than the first, tying the game at 3:58 as a shot block at the Bulldogs blue line would spring Mark Duarte and Navrin Mutter on a 2-on-1.
Duarte with speed on the right wing would look off Mutter, snapping the puck back Battalion goaltender Dom Divincentiis for his 2nd of the season. Hamilton would take the lead at 11:38 with Gavin White and Nathan Stairs cycling the puck at the blue line, as White would back towards the left point he set the puck perfectly for a Staios one-timer that would rocket its way through traffic, giving Staios his 1st of the season. Thanks to 12 Marco Costantini saves in the middle frame the Bulldogs would take a 2-1 lead to the room.
Hamilton and North Bay would trade chances in the 3rd period but a late delay of game penalty would give North Bay a chance to turn the tide. Despite the Bulldogs killing the penalty, on the ensuing shift a breakout pass would hit a Bulldogs forward in the skate and lay dead in the slot for Kyle Jackson who would beat Costantini to tie the game at 16:11. A second defensive zone turnover 40 seconds later would lead to Mitchell Russell recording his 2nd of the game to put North Bay ahead 3-2 at 16:51. The Bulldogs would bring Costantini to the bench and create a great chance 6- on-5 but a pop-up puck would just miss the post before Liam Arnsby would hit the empty net at 19:30 to end the Bulldogs 4-game winning streak.
The Hamilton Bulldogs will return to action quickly, travelling to Sudbury to take on the Wolves at 7:00pm on Friday October 22nd.
