Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Rochester Americans 6-5 on Sunday at Copps Coliseum. Aaron Palushaj had two goals and an assist but it was not enough as Mike Kostka and Patrick Rissmiller each had a goal and two assists in the win for the Americans.

The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring 11 seconds into the first period. Gabriel Dumont fired a shot on net that was stopped by Rochester starting goaltender Marc Cheverie. The rebound bounced out to the slot where Andrew Conboy was positioned. Conboy rifled a shot that bear Cheverie over the glove.

The Americans tied the game 1-1, 28 seconds after the 'Dogs goal. Mark Cullen carried the puck down the left side before centering a pass to Hugh Jessiman, who was positioned in front of the net. Jessiman tapped the puck between the legs of Hamilton starting goaltender Drew MacIntyre. Rochester took a 2-1 lead at 12:58 while on the power play. Rissmiller sent the puck to Kostka, who was at the right point. Kostka blasted a shot that travelled through traffic before trickling past MacIntyre and into the net. The Amerks increased their lead to 3-1 at 14:37. Kostka carried the puck towards the net before backhanding a low shot. The rebound bounced out to Triston Grant, who flipped the puck over a sprawled MacIntyre and into the net. Evan Oberg added Rochester's fourth goal of the game and period at 19:57. Bill Thomas sent the puck to Oberg, who was at the blue line. Oberg wired a shot that sailed through traffic and over MacIntyre's shoulder.

Robert Mayer replaced MacIntyre in the Hamilton net to start the second period.

The 'Dogs made the game 4-2 at 2:40 of the second stanza. David Urquhart released a shot on net from the point. Cheverie was unable to control the rebound, which was scooped-up by Palushaj at the left side of the net and fired past the goaltender. Palushaj added his second goal of the game at 5:55 while on the power play. Conboy stripped the puck off a Rochester defender behind the net before dishing the puck to Palushaj, who was in front of the net. Palushaj proceeded to slide the puck past Cheverie and across the goal line.

Rochester added a power-play goal at 10:50 of the middle frame. Rissmiller sent the puck to the point, where Kostka blasted a shot on net. Mayer stopped the shot but was unable to cover the rebound allowing Michael Duco to jam the puck underneath the goaltender. The Americans added another power-play goal at 15:35. Bill Thomas passed the puck down to the left corner to Michael Duco, who slid the puck to the top of the left circle, where Rissmiller was stationed. Rissmiller wristed a shot over the shoulder of Mayer.

Hamilton tallied a goal at 14:41 of the final frame. Palushaj intercepted a passing attempt by Cheverie while behind the net. Palushaj fed the puck to the front of the crease, where J.T. Wyman whacked the puck into an open net. The Dogs pulled within one at 16:45. Ian Schultz took a wrist shot from the blueline which trickled past Cheverie and slid in the net.

The Bulldogs will begin a six-game road trip on Wednesday, March 16th when they travel to Rochester to battle the Amerks for a 7:05 p.m. game. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
