September 23, 2023 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (5-1) overcame an early deficit and battled past the Lone Star Brahmas, 3-2 in the shootout in front of another raucous crowd at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.
LSB got on the board at 12:30 of the opening period as Anthony Capello put a good shot through for his second goal of the year to give the Brahmas an early 1-0 edge. The visiting team would add on w/ a shorthanded tally from Charlie Masek netting his third goal to extend the lead to 2-0 at 14:50.
SHV got on the board w/ a shorthanded goal of their own as Captain Hayden Nichol would use a burst of speed and swat in his first team-leading fifth goal of the season from the far side to make it a 2-1 contest at 6:13 of the middle frame. Brayden Cook and Alex Park earned the helpers on SHV's first goal of the game. Cook would then get one of his own on the PP as he tipped home his second tally at 8:17 to dramatically even the score, 2-2. Brent Litchard and Will Murphy picked the assists on the equalizing goal.
The game stayed tied 2-2 through the third period and OT sending the game into the shootout session. After six rounds in the shootout, it was Ryan Burke waiting out their netminder and firing home a forehander into the net to help the Bugs beat and sweep the Brahmas, 3-2.
Elliot Seguin-Lescarbeau earned his second win in net helping SHV win for the fifth time in their past six games.
The Bugs and Brahmas will shift their home & home series to the Nytex Sports Centre next Friday for a two-game series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
