Bugs Fall Late to Jets

September 17, 2021 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

The Shreveport Mudbugs (1-2) tied the game three times before dropping a wild one to the Janesville Jets, 6-4 Friday afternoon at the NAHL Showcase.

Janesville got the game's first goal on a Bugs defensive misplay as William Gustavsson finished off a 2 on 0 breakaway for his first goal of the season to give the Jets a 1-0 lead at 4:40 of the opening period.

The Bugs tied the game up on a solo effort from Billy Feczko racing across the right side and flipping home his second goal of the season along the weak side to even the score 1-1 at 4:34 of the 2nd period. The Jets would go back ahead at 6:16 on a rebound in front which was swept home from Mack Keryluk to make it a 2-1 contest. Shreveport would come back and tie it again when Jake Mack would fire a puck from the left point which found the stick of Logan Gotinsky who rammed home his first tally of the year to make it a 2-2 game at 10:09. Then bad news hit the Bugs as Davis Goukler took a game-misconduct for a head contact and the defending champs were on the PK for a full five mins. The Bugs would get good fortune as Jake Onstott would go on a breakaway and flip in in his first goal of the season glove-side to give Shreveport their first lead of the day at 3-2 at 16:22. The Jets would come right back in a wild and crazy middle period and get a goal from Will Troutwine from the RW circle to make it a 3-3 contest at 17:54. Janesville led in SOG, 17-14 after two.

The Jets would score a shorthanded tally of their own at 8:59 when Keryluk would flip in his second tally of the game to give Janesville the lead again at 4-3. Shreveport would rally back at 16:49 when Logan Furstenau would fire home his first goal of the campaign from the RW circle to even the score yet again, 4-4. The game would be decided though at 17:33 when Grayden Daul would tip home his first goal of the season in front to make it a 5-4 contest. The Jets would thwart any Bugs rally attempt by adding an EN tally to make it a 6-4 final.

The Bugs will conclude their 2021 NAHL Showcase tomorrow afternoon as they'll play the St. Cloud Norseman. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
