Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Sheveport Mudbugs (34-18) blew a 2-0 lead only to come back at beat the Lone Star Brahmas, 4-3 in OT Saturday night at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Bugs broke through on the PP when Aidan Metcalfe threw a shot in front that found its way through for his second goal of the season at 8:44 giving Shreveport the early 1-0 edge. Timofei Khokhlachev and Anton Rubstov earned the assists. Shreveport would extend their lead at 14:34 off a pretty tic-tac-toe play in front which was finished from Warren Natyshak from the short side for his 11th tally of the season. Ryan Waltman and Carson Nichols earned the helpers making it a 2-0 Bugs lead. Bugs led in SOG, 8-5 after one period of play.
Lone Star stormed back with goals from Michal Stinil, Thomas Daskas, and Matt Guerra at 13:49, 14:24, and 17:33 respectively to give the Brahmas a sudden 3-2 lead in the contest. It was 17 seconds after Lone Star took the lead that Gio Procopio raced through the slot and fired home his seventh tally of the season tying the game up 3-3. Surprisingly, the Bugs led in SOG, 20-9 after two periods of play.
Both teams traded good scoring chances in the third period, but both goalies made big stops to keep the game tied 3-3 sending the contest into OT.
It was at 3:20 of the extra session when Warren Natyshak threw the puck off the pads of Brahmas goalie Cayden Bailey and Carson Nichols was able to ram home the rebound for his ninth goal of the season from the LW circle to lift the Bugs to a 4-3 victory.
Richie Parent earned his sixteenth win in net making just 14 saves on the night.
The Mudbugs will hit the road to Albuquerque, NM to take on the New Mexico Ice Wolves next Friday and Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Outpost Ice Arenas for Friday's contest.
