Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(BUFFALO, NY)- Buffalo heads out west for the first time this season Friday night to take on the defending ArenaBowl Champion San Jose Sabercats at 10:30 p.m. EST. Empire Sports Network will carry the game live or log on to www.buffalodestroyers.com/warzone.html during the game for live scoring and stats.
Friday's game will be an interesting match up as the Destroyers bring the league's number one scoring defense (41.7 points per game), while the Sabercats are the league's number one scoring offense (65.5 points per game).
"Our defense is playing phenomenal," said head coach Ron Selesky. "Our offense needs to get back on track. The offensive line needs to provide more consistent protection for Jeff and Jeff has to be more consistent reading the defenses. The receivers have to get the correct timing down with Jeff, so it is a combination of things.
Cheektowaga native and Buffalo State alum OL/DL Mark Valvo will make his debut for his hometown team this week. He signed to Buffalo's active roster from the practice squad and will play against the Sabercats. Valvo originally signed with the Destroyers as a free agent in the off-season while he recovered from partial quadriceps tendon tears in both of his knees.
"I am very excited to be able to play in front of my friends and family," said Valvo. "They were a big part of me choosing to come back here and play. My mom could never come and watch me when I played in Indiana and now I am closer to my wife, too, so it all works out for the better. It was a dream of mine to be able to come back and play in Buffalo.
"We are very excited to have Mark in the lineup this week," said Selesky. "Valvo brings a lot to our team. He is a successful , veteran player, but more importantly he has the personality to be a leader.
AFL veteran OL/DL Otis Moore has signed with Buffalo this week and will also make his debut on Friday. Moore is currently tied for sixth place all-time in the AFL with 11 forced fumbles. Ironically, Moore is tied with current Destroyers FB/LB coach Chad Lindsey. He is also tied for 10th all-time in AFL history with 14.5 tackles for a loss
The Destroyers return home Sunday, March 23 hosting division rival Las Vegas Gladiators at noon at the HSBC Arena.
