Buffalo doubles up on Norfolk

Buffalo used an early outburst against Tsuyoshi Wada to knock off the Tides 6-3 in front of 8,033 fans Friday night at Harbor Park.

The Bisons plated a run in the first before plating two apiece in the second and third frames to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Buffalo's first four hits went for extra bases, including RBI doubles by Mike Nickeas and Luis Jimenez paired with an RBI triple by Mike McCoy. Buffalo then extended its lead to 6-0 in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Mauro Gomez.

Wada struggled in his fourth rehab start, taking the loss to fall to 0-3. Wada yielded six runs - four earned - on eight hits in 4.2 innings of work, walking two without striking out a batter. The 32-year-old southpaw threw 82 pitches in his outing and while seeing his ERA rise to 6.11.

Buck Britton belted a solo home run in the fifth inning off of Buffalo starter Dave Bush (6-4), who allowed two runs on six hits in 5.2 innings of work. Russ Canzler added an RBI single for Norfolk, which lost for just the sixth time in its last 23 games at Harbor Park.

Brandon Wood capped the scoring with a solo home run in the ninth inning, his second home run with the Tides this season.

The two clubs will continue their four-game series Saturday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05. Josh Stinson (3-2, 4.66) will take the mound for the Tides against Bisons left-hander Ricky Romero (0-1, 13.85).
