May 31, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons travel to Norfolk to take on the Tides in the first of a four-game set from Harbor Park (7:05 p.m.). This is the fifth game of an eight-game roadtrip for the Herd. They look to get back on track after being swept by Durham earlier this week. Buffalo returns home on Tuesday for four games against Lehigh Valley.
vs. the Tides
This is the second matchup of the year for Buffalo and Norfolk. The Tides took three of four games from the Bisons earlier this month at Coca-Cola Field. Since 1998, the Herd has 73-47 record against the Tides, including a 38-22 record on the road. Buffalo has only lost two series in Norfolk over that span.
Dave Bush
RHP DAVE BUSH makes his 10th start of the year tonight, which ties him for the most on the team. Bush also leads the Bisons in wins (5) and ERA (5.06). He is third on the team in innings pitched (48.0) and strikeouts (32). In his last outing on May 26 against Indianapolis, Bush worked five innings and gave up two runs while picking up the win.
Homering Herd
The Bisons have 62 home runs on the season, eight more than any International League club. At this pace, the Herd would hit 172 home runs this season, which would be their most since slugging 179 in 2005. INF MAURO GOMEZ leads the team with 11 homers, which ties him for 4th in the league. Since May 10, the slugger has seven long balls, which is the most in the league during that period.
On the Mend
RHP JOSH JOHNSON made his second rehab start for the Bisons last night. He worked 4.2 innings and give up six runs on eight hits, while picking up his fist loss. He previously pitched four scoreless innings in a no decision on May 25 against Indy. Also on a rehab stint with the Herd is RHP DUSTIN MCGOWAN. He has worked six innings out of the pen, and has held opponents to five runs while striking out eight.
Bisons Bits
INF JIM NEGRYCH leads all IL hitters with his .367 average, and has the second highest average in Triple-A (Albuquerque's Scott Van Slyke, .397)...RHP DAVE BUSH has the lowest BB/9IP ratio in the league (1.15)...The Herd leads the IL in slugging pct. as a team (.448) and hitters have the 3rd fewest strikeouts in the league (379).
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (23-31) fell to the Braves last night, 11-3. Former Bisons RHP BRAD LINCOLN and RHP TODD REDMOND combined to give up five runs in two innings of work out of the bullpen, and OF ANTHONY GOSE went 0-1 at the plate after entering the game as a pinch hitter. Tonight the Jays travel to San Diego to take on the Padres at 10:10 p.m.
