Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(BUFFALO, NY)- The Buffalo Destroyers of the Arena Football League released their schedule for the 2003 season this afternoon. Buffalo will play 16 regular season games and will compete in the Eastern Division of the National Conference. Division opponents are the New York Dragons, the New Jersey Gladiators and the Detroit Fury (replacing Toronto) which the Destroyers will play both home and away.
Its always exciting to get the schedule, said Destroyers head coach and general manager Ray Bentley. Now you know who and when so you can get to work on what.
The Destroyers open the regular season at home against the Grand Rapids Rampage on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at 7:00 PM at the HSBC Arena. They will also host the Carolina Cobras and Arizona Rattlers to begin the season. Buffalo hits the road for a game in Atlanta against the Georgia Force on Saturday, February 22 before returning home to meet the Chicago Rush on March 1 at 7:00 PM at the HSBC Arena.
From a competitive standpoint, playing four out of the first five at home can be an advantage, Bentley added. We love playing at home in front of our fans. This gives us an opportunity for a fast start.
The Destroyers also play home games against New Jersey, Detroit, Indiana and New York. Road games are against Georgia, Tampa Bay, San Jose, New York, Orlando, Los Angeles, Detroit and New Jersey.
The schedule is highlighted with a possible regional matchup on NBC between New Jersey and Buffalo at the HSBC Arena on Sunday, March 23 at 3:00 PM. Buffalo may also be on seen on NBC on Sunday, April 6 as they travel to Long Island to meet New York, Sunday, May 4 at Detroit at 3:00 PM and also Sunday, May 11 at HSBC Arena against New York at 3:00 PM.
Buffalo will open training camp on Tuesday, January 7, 2003. Local radio and television partners for the 2003 season will be announced at a later date.
