Buffalo Bisons Notes

July 9, 2005 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the second game of their three game set from Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m. first pitch). Last night, the Wings defeated the Herd, 6-2, for their third consecutive win against Buffalo. That evened up the season-series at five wins apiece. Looking to regain the edge, Buffalo will turn to RHP Jason Davis. Davis returned to the Herd on Tuesday after throwing six shutout innings with the Cleveland Indians to earn a win on July 4. He'll be up against LHP Ricky Barrett, who made his first start of the season against the Bisons on Monday. Barrett, who had made 21 appearances out of the pen with Rochester, allowed just one run two hits in four innings for the no-decision.

THE FUTURE IS NOW: Bisons' skipper Marty Brown, catcher Ryan Garko and pitcher Fausto Carmona will miss the rest of this series as they are in Detroit, Michigan for Sunday's XM Satellite Radio Future's Game. Brown will manage the U.S. team that will feature Garko, while Carmona will pitch for the World team.

SUPER JOE: Infielder Joe Inglett has tied Jeff Liefer for the Bisons' longest hit streak of the season. Inglett's RBI-single in the 7th inning last night extended his hit streak to 11 games. During the stretch, he has averaged .357 (15-42). Liefer had his 11-game streak, May 21-June 4, hitting .452 (19-42).

SOLID RELIEF: Bisons' reliever Andrew Brown has now made six consecutive scoreless appearances. The righty has allowed just two hits while striking out nine batters in 8.2 innings over the stretch. With 56 strikeouts in just 44.1 total innings pitched this season, Brown leads the team with 1.26 K's/nine innings.

ROSTER MOVES: The Indians have called up infielder Brandon Phillips today. Phillips hit .255 (84-330) with 11 homers and 33RBI in 80 games with the Bisons. To make room, pitcher Brian Tallet was optioned to Buffalo. The southpaw hasn't pitched in two stints with the Tribe and is 6-2 with a 3.65ERA in 14 starts with the Herd. Infielder Roman Vazquez also joins the Herd today, after being acquired from Boston for infielder Alex Cora on July 7. Vazquez hit .197 (12-61) with 4RBI in 27 games with the Red Sox.

THRUWAY SERIES: After 30 games, the 2005 Thruway Cup Series is still all even. Buffalo, Rochester and the Syracuse SkyChiefs are all 10-10, with five wins against each team.
