The Bucs take their season record to 5-0 at their first game on the road. Going into the third period Des Moines had a two point lead over Cedar Rapids, but the last 20 minutes would give the Bucs a run for their money.
The first penalty of the game came from the RoughRiders for boarding just 2:21 into the 1st period. Just two minutes later Connor Pelc of the Bucs went to the box for interference. Cedar Rapids' Flammang got the RoughRiders on the board with 33 seconds left in the power play. The 6:40 mark of the 1st period brought the bulk of penalty minutes. Fighting broke out in the Bucs zone after a big hit threw Tiernan Shoudy into the boards. Cedar Rapids' Lovett was given five minutes for major-fighting and a 10-minute misconduct.. After the fighting was all but settled Northeastern commit, Michael Bevilacqua was pushed by RoughRiders' Fleming resulting in more fighting. Bevilacqua got 15 minutes for major-fighting and 10-minute misconduct. Fleming also got 15 minutes for major-charging and game misconduct- charging. When the penalties were sorted out, the Bucs were on the power play. After 9 shots on goal by Des Moines, Scout Truman tied the game at 10:22 and less than a minute later Davis Burnside gave the Bucs a 2-1 lead to end the period.
The 2nd period started with a hooking penalty on DeStefani at 1:37 but Cedar Rapids couldn't capitalize. At the 7:03 mark, Killian Kiecker-Olson got the Bucs another power play goal bringing the Bucs up 3-1. The RoughRiders were given another power play chance when Des Moines' Dorrington went to the box for cross checking, but the Buccaneers defense and goaltender, Remington Keopple, held them off. The third and final penalty of the 2nd period came at 19:51 on Cedar Rapids' Teleki for high sticking giving the Bucs a power play to start the 3rd period.
The RoughRiders held off the Bucs for the power play to start the period, but Cedar Rapids was given two more penalties in the first 6 minutes. Tanner Latsch scored his fourth goal of the season giving the Bucs a three point lead. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Des Moines' Cade DeStefani gave the RoughRiders a chance to get back in it. Just 10 seconds in to the power play Cedar Rapids' Burtch made it a two point game. Less than two minutes later the RoughRiders Grant Ahcan scored his first USHL goal bringing the Bucs lead to one with 10 minutes left in regulation. The Bucs went on another power play after a too many men penalty and Davis Burnside got his second goal of the night in the last four seconds. Des Moines was up 5-3 with less than two minutes to play. Scout Truman got his second goal of the night 30 seconds later and brought the Bucs up 6-3 with an empty netter. With 35 seconds left, fights broke out in front of the Buccaneers net leading to more penalties. Des Moines' Prokop was given four minutes for roughing and with 17 seconds left to play, Burtch got his second goal of the night. A hooking penalty was called with one second left which led to a controversial ending to the game as the RoughRiders scored a goal on the play that would be waved off. The Bucs continue their season undefeated with a 6-4 win.
The Bucs will hit the road next weekend for 2 games - Friday October 22 in Dubuque and Saturday Oct 23 in Sioux City!
