Bucs Perform Well During All-Star Break

The Des Moines Buccaneers players definitely made their presence felt this week at the 2007 USHL Prospects/All-Star Game. On Monday, the USHL held their skills competition which the Bucs won four out of five of the events. Forwards Rich Purslow and Ben Ryan finished first and second respectively in the puck control event and defenseman Jeff Petry had the hardest shot with a speed of 95 mph. Forward Matt Read won the shooting accuracy event by hitting 4 out of five targets and goalie Matt Dalton came on top of the goalie competition with 10 of 12 saves. The West Division also won the shootout 6-4 over the East Division.

The West Division won the skills competition by a score of 18-7 with nine of those points coming from Buccaneers.

Tuesday night, seven Buccaneers players participated in the All-Star Game. Three Buccaneers tallied goals in the game to help the Western Division top the Eastern Division 7-3. Forwards Ben Ryan, Rich Purslow and Matt Read each got a goal a piece in the game. Forward Aaron Palushaj had an assist on Ryan's goal. Only two goals were scored in the first two periods of play (Corey Tropp - Sioux Falls, Ben Ryan - Des Moines). Eight goals were then tallied in the third period finish off an exciting hockey game. Goalie Matt Dalton played well by stopping 13 of the 16 he faced in net. Ben Ryan was named West Division Player of the Game. The Eastern Division Player of the Game was Tommy Wingels (Cedar Rapids) for his two power play goals. Forward Corey Tropp (Sioux Falls) was the MVP of the All-Star Game with his two goals, one of which was the game winner.

The Buccaneers will be at home both Friday and Saturday nights at 95KGGO Arena. Friday, the Bucs will take on the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. It is the next Friday Night Concert Series presented by KGGO. RUDE MOOD will be performing immediately following the game. It is also Student Night - Half Price Tickets with Valid Student ID. Saturday, the Bucs will play host to the Tri-City Storm. It will be Buccaneers T-Shirt Giveaway Night. The first 1,500 fans will receive a FREE Buccaneers T-Shirt.
