
Bucks Tame \'Jacks In Game Two 6-3: Lead Series 2-0

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks beat the Odessa Jackalopes 6-3 Monday night in game two of the Central Hockey League's Southern Conference Semi-Finals, in front of 4,033 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks lead the best-of-seven series two games to none. Game three will be in Odessa Wednesday night at 7:00pm.
For the second straight game the Bucks took it to the Jackalopes, outshooting them 44-17. Laredo outshot Odessa in game one 46-24. Laredo would have success on the power-play, as they were four-for-12 with the man advantage.
Laredo received contributions from a number of players, six Bucks tallied two or more points in the game. Chris Stanley scored two goals, with Serge Dube (0-4=4), Adam Rivet (1-2=3), James Hiebert (1-2=3), Jeff Bes (1-1=2), and Alex Goupil (1-1=2) leading the way for Laredo.
Rivet (2-4=6) now has six points in Laredo's two playoff games.
Laredo took an early lead in the first period when Stanley scored his first Bucks playoff goal at the 6:14 mark. Stanley took a past at the right circle dot and sent a wrist shot past âJacks goaltender Alexandre Vincent. Rivet picked up the assist on Stanley's tally.
The Bucks would take two penalties with-in seven second of each other at the 10:01 mark to put the âJacks on a five on three power-play for 1:54, in which they would cash in on.
Mario Joly sent a shot from the point that was deflected past Bucks goaltender Dustin Traylen by Colin Cicerelli. It was Cicerelli's second goal of the postseason.
Laredo would re-take the lead on a power-play of their own when Stanely struck for his second straight goal of the period. Stanley crossed the blue line on a two on two situation, and sent a backhander from the bottom of the right circle past Vincent. Hiebert and Dube picked up assists on Stanley's second strike.
Odessa took 12 minutes of penalties in the first 20 minutes, with Laredo going one-for-five on the power-play.
The Bucks outshot the âJacks in the first period 14-5.
Laredo would take a 3-1 lead 6:08 into the second period as Alex Goupil notched his first Bucks playoff goal. Goupil took a pass from Dube on a three-on-two, and wrapped around the Odessa net and jammed the puck past Vincent's right pad. Dube and Chris Korchinski tallied assists on Goupil's goal.
The Bucks would go on a five-on-three advantage of their own midway through the period, and Laredo would score just 13 seconds into the two-man advantage. Bes took a Dube pass from at the very right of the net, with Vincent stuck on the other side of the crease all Bes had to do was slip it by Vincent. The goal was Bes' 41st playoff tally. Dube picked up his third assist of the game on Bes' goal.
Odessa would cut the Laredo lead to 4-2 when Nathan Ward tallied on the power-play. Ward sent a slap shot from the bottom of the left circle past Traylen.
With 1:16 left in the second period Joly was called for a hook, then didn't like the call and argued with the official to receive a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Because of Joly's penalty Laredo would go on a four-minute power-play.
Laredo would cash in with just a half a second left in the second period, when Rivet send a rebound over the shoulder of Vincent. It was Rivet's second tally of the '08 postseason. As soon as Rivet's shot went into the net the clock read 0:00, the officals then put the half second back on the clock.
Odessa would make it 5-3 Bucks just 4:08 into the third period when Josh Chase scored from the bottom of the left circle on a two-on-two situation.
Laredo would double up Odessa and take a 6-3 lead with 4:49 left in the third when Hiebert sent a laser slap shot from the point on the power-play. It was Hiebert's 27th career playoff goal as a Buck.
Traylen picked up the win in net as he set aside 14 of 17 Odessa shots. Vincent lost for the second straight game, this time setting aside 38 of 44 shots.
The two teams will head north to Odessa for games three and four of the series. Game three will be Wednesday night at the Ector County Coliseum at 7:05pm, with game four taking place Friday night (April 4th). Game five if necessary will be in Odessa Saturday night (April 5th).
