Youngstown Drops First Two in Colorado

This year's playoff series between the Hounds and the Eagles has duplicated the start of last season's with Colorado taking the first two games at the Budweiser Events Center.

Game One Recap

Friday night's game one was a back and forth contest as the Eagles took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Goals by Eric Przepiorka, Brad Patterson and Bryan Lachapelle gave Youngstown a 4-2 lead late in the second period but the Eagles responded with goals from Ryan Tobler and Seth Leonard to tie the game 4-4 after two periods. At 12:36 of the third period Seth Leonard came from behind the net and flicked a shot that went off of Andy Franck and over his shoulder for a goal to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead. Les Borsheim scored at 16:01 to give the Eagles a 6-4 win.

Game Two Recap

Saturday night the Hounds out shot the Eagles 11-4 for the first period but were not able to score. The Eagles quickly scored three in the second period as they cruised to a 5-0 win. Sebastien Laplante made 31 saves in the shutout for Colorado who leads the series 2-0. The Hounds have never won at the Budweiser Events Center going 0-10-1 all time and 0-5 in the playoffs dating back to last season.

What's On Tap: Switch Venues, Switch Problems

The series takes a drastic turn as it comes to the Chevrolet Centre where the SteelHounds won the last five meetings dating to last year's playoffs. Colorado finished the regular season 10-15-7 on the road as compared to 27-5-0 at home. The Hounds have won five of their last six home games coming into game three. Youngstown needs to win at least two games in order to send this series back to Colorado for game six and possibly seven. The Eagles can finish the series here with two wins in the next three games. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.

Oh Those Special Teams

An issue that may have not been noticeable during the regular season is rearing its ugly head in the playoffs and that is Youngstown's special teams. During the regular season the power play was 14th (15.1%) while the penalty kill was 10th (82.2%) in the league. In two games thus far in the playoffs the power play is 2-21 (9.5%) for eighth out of the 10 playoff teams. The penalty kill is 10th surrendering five goals on 14 shorthanded situations. Colorado's power play (20.3%) was third during the regular season and currently has the best the power play in the playoffs (35.7%).
