
Bucks Stun Komets with Overtime Win

LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 4-3 in overtime.
The Laredo Bucks faced the Fort Wayne Komets for the first time ever Friday night in Fort Wayne. This was the first of back to back games between the two teams.
Fort Wayne wasted no time getting on the board. Colin Chaulk put the rebound into the net at 1:02, giving the Komets a 1-0 lead. At 2:52 Jesse Bennefield walked right in on Torrie Jung, going stick side with a wrist shot. The goal gave Fort Wayne a 2-0 lead. Justin Styffe dropped the gloves with Kaleigh Schrock at 5:23 trying to change the momentum of the game. A.J. Hau intercepted a pass and drove down the ice shooting the puck, the Komet netminder was unable to control the puck enabling Kyle Mariani to hammer it into the net. The goal at 10:39 made it only a one goal lead. Fort Wayne was able to light the lamp late in the first at 19:33 to end the period with a 3-1 lead. The Bucks were outshot 14-8 in the opening period.
The Bucks spent some quality time in the Komets' zone to begin the middle frame. Neil Trimm passed the puck out of the corner hitting Erik Boisvert in the slot. Boisvert then shot the puck down low, glove side, putting it past the Komets' netminder Nick Boucher. Trevor Hunt also assisted on the goal, once again making it a one goal game at 3-2. The period was full of battles in the corners and aggressive fore-checking. Torrie Jung faced a flurry of shots late in the period, but he held strong in the crease. The Bucks outshot the Komets 8-7 in the period.
Laredo began the third period on the powerplay, but were unable to convert on the man advantage. The Bucks had several good looks during the first five minutes of the period, but could not cross the goal line. Laredo broke through and tied the game 3-3, when Erik Boisvert redirected the puck on a Komet turnover. Matt Boyd assisted on the goal at 7:57 in the final period of play. The remainder of the period was spent in transition, neither team being able to break the 3-3 tie. The Bucks were outshot 15-4 in the period.
The game would come down to overtime. Torrie Jung continued to play well in the crease. The Bucks would go on the powerplay at 2:58 in the extra frame. Adam Rivet would give the Bucks the 4-3 victory when he would redirect a shot from the angle. David Inman and Neil Trimm assisted on the goal at 3:35 to end the game in overtime.
