GLENDALE, AZ (March 16, 2012) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today the winners of the 2011-12 Athletic Trainer of the Year and Gunner Garrett Equipment Manager of the Year awards as determined by voting among the equipment managers and athletic trainers from the CHL.
Dayton's Bryan Rogers has been selected the Athletic Trainer of the Year and for the second consecutive season, Rapid City's Romeo Vivit has been voted the Gunner Garrett Equipment Manager of the Year.
Voting was conducted by the CHL's Hockey Operations department which asked all athletic trainers and equipment managers in the league to rank the top workers in each category, one to three. A first place vote earned five points, a second place vote earned three points and a third place vote earned one point (voters were not permitted to vote for themselves).
Rogers is in his third season as head athletic trainer for the Gems and worked previously in the city of Dayton with the ECHL's Bombers from 2006-2009. The Tennessee Tech University graduate earned 29 points during the voting period appearing on half of the ballots and earning five first place votes. Finishing in second place was Arizona's Vince Fedorowich and Texas' Tom Hart who each earned 15 points.
Vivit is in his third season as the Equipment Manager with the Rush and he becomes the first person to win the award twice.
