
Blaze Drop Friday Night Affair to Mavericks

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, dropped a Friday night affair to the Missouri Mavericks by a 4-1 count at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The Mavericks broke the ice with 17:34 remaining in the opening period when Andrew Courtney took a perfect pass at the top of the crease from Ed McGrane, with the second assist given to Sebastien Thinel. The Blaze tied the game with a power play goal from Jon Booras, who pushed the puck inside the right post as he was being jostled with 6:25 remaining in the first period, with assists going to Brandon Richardson and Doug Krantz.
Missouri broke the tie with 8:17 left in the second period when David Simoes scored at the doorstep, assisted by John-Scott Dickson and Sebastien Thinel.
The Mavericks extended the lead to 3-1 on a power play goal by Ed McGrane from the left circle, assisted by Thinel, with 17:26 left in regulation. The Mavericks made it 4-1 when Andrew Courtney scored his second goal of the game on the left side after Sebastien Thinel took advantage of a Blaze turnover deep in the Bloomington zone with 4:59 remaining.
The Blaze outshot the Mavericks 37-33. Brian Mahoney-Wilson sustained the loss in net to fall to 4-7-1 while B.J. O'Brien took the win in his first appearance.
The Blaze host their final home game of their inaugural season on Saturday night at 7:05 against the Dayton Gems. A giant St. Patrick's Day party is planned, with special jerseys to be worn by the Blaze and auctioned immediately after the game. Saturday is Fan Appreciation Night, featuring end-of-season player awards to be announced before the opening face-off.
