Bucks Hammer Bees 6-2, Laredo Wins Fourth Straight

HIDALGO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks scored three goals in 60 seconds in the first period to take the lead and cruised to a 6-2 win over the Rio Grand Valley Killer Bees at the Dodge Arena in front of 5,187 fans on Saturday night. Six different players scored as the Bucks won their third straight against Rio Grande Valley and fourth consecutive overall. The Bucks are a Southern Conference best 18-8-2 with 28 points. Laredo returns home on Sunday against the Killer Bees in the Westwind Homes Tuxes and Pucks New Years Eve Celebration. The first 2,500 fans will get a hockey puck keychain courtesy of Westwind Homes plus there will be fireworks after the game presented by Lack's Furniture. Fans can get the Laredo Morning Times Family Four Pack, which includes four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas (a $100 value) for $48. The Bucks are offering a family four pack of season tickets for the 2006-07 CHL regular season, which works out to just over $7 a seat per game and is a 48 % savings off walkup prices. The Bucks came out gunning in the first period. Defenseman Adam Rivet scored on a screened slap shot on a power play chance at 6:49. It was his 12th of the year. Rio Grande Valley tied the game when forward Rob Voltera tipped in a centering feed at 8:38. The Bucks then exploded for three goals in a minute. Forward Ladislav Kouba scored his eighth of the year on a wrist shot on a breakaway at 15:22. Just 38 seconds later forward Jeff Genovy scored on a wrister from the bottom of the left circle to make it 3-1. It was Genovy's sixth. Forward Serge Dube capped off the surge with a slap shot from the top of the left circle at 16:00 for his eighth of the year, making it 4-1 Laredo.

Early in the second period the Killer Bees got back in the game as Voltera connected for his second of the contest, this time shorthanded at 3:04. The Bucks extended their lead back to three goals as defenseman Oriel McHugh ripped a big drive from the point thru traffic at 12:40 for his third of the year, giving Laredo a 5-2 lead.

In the third period forward Igor Agarunov completed the scoring with his eighth of the season on a power play at 1:49. FINAL SCORE Laredo 6, Rio Grande Valley 2. Eric Marvin stopped 33 of 35 shots and improved to 10-4-2. Jeremy Symington allowed six goals on 31 shots and fell to 9-6-1. The Bucks were 2-7 on the power play while Rio Grande Valley went 0-6. The Killer Bees out shot the Bucks 35-31.
