Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Bucks crushed the Lubbock Cotton Kings 11-1 at the Laredo Entertainment Center in front of 5,676 fans. The Bucks set a franchise record for goals in a game as they netted 11 and won their ninth straight overall and 14th in a row at home. The Bucks improved to 33-5-2 and lead the CHL and Southeast division at 68 points.

The Bucks are on the road this Friday in Austin and Saturday in Odessa. Laredo returns home on Wednesday, January 28th, against the Corpus Christi Rayz. Call (956) 718-BUCKS (2825) for tickets or more information or go online at www.laredobucks.com.

Challenged by their head coach Terry Ruskowski to respond after a lethargic effort on Saturday in a 3-2 win over Odessa the Bucks came out flying. Forward James Hiebert walked down the left goal line and stuffed the puck home just 1:56 into the game for his eighth of the season and a 1-0 Laredo lead. Just 45 seconds later it was 2-0 Bucks as forward Mike Amodeo tipped in a shot from the point from defenseman Gabriel Proulx at 2:41. It was Amodeo's eighth goal of the year. Only 19 seconds later it was forward Jeff Bes getting loose on a breakaway and opening up the legs of Lubbock goalie Rob Garrick with a fake and slipping the puck five-hole for his 23rd of the year at 3:00. The goal extended Bes' point streak to a CHL season high 15 straight games. At 6:26 the ‘Three Amigos' rode into action. Chris Grenville passed to Bes who centered a pass that Brent Cullaton one-timed past Garrick to make it 4-0. It was Cullaton's 25th of the year and extended his point streak to 13 straight games.

In the second period the assault continued. The Cotton Kings grabbed a goal at 5:35 when forward Jim Shepherd swept in a rebound to cut the lead to 4-1. The Bucks took a little over 90 seconds to answer as defenseman Serge Dube scored on a top shelf wrist shot off a beautiful drop pass by forward Max Birbraer at 7:13 to make it 5-1. Only 55 seconds later it was Cullaton with a gorgeous pass backdoor for defenseman Steve Weidlich who tipped it into the cage at 8:08 for his fourth of the year. Late in the second period the Bucks continued to attack. Dube teed up a rocket from the high slot for his second of the night and tenth of the season at 18:00. With 9.3 seconds to go in the period the Bucks were still working. After a wild scramble forward Patrik Nilson slipped the puck backdoor for forward Jason Spence who wristed it by Garrick with 0.6 seconds left in the period. It was Spence's fifth of the year.

In the third the throttle stayed hammered to the floorboards. Amodeo cut down the right goal line and banked a shot off the left leg pad of Garrick and into the net at 10:31. The goal by Amodeo gave the Bucks a new franchise record for goals in a game with nine, the previous was eight accomplished twice last season. At 12:05 defenseman Dion Hyman roofed a shot from the bottom of the left circle for his fifth of the year and a 10-1 Bucks lead. The Bucks were not done. Nilson got loose on a two-on-one and set up Birbraer for a one timer at 17:37 to complete the scoring. Birbraer picked up his tenth goal of the year. FINAL SCORE Laredo 11, Lubbock 1.

Bucks goalie David Guerrera stopped 14 of 15 shots to pick up his sixth straight win and improve to 18-3-0. Garrick allowed 11 goals on 43 shots and fell to 3-6-0. For the first time this year the Bucks did not have a power play chance, Lubbock was 0-4.
