Bucks' Comeback Falls Short

LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, fell to the Missouri Mavericks 7-4.

The Laredo Bucks ended their three game road trip, before the Christmas break, by playing the Missouri Mavericks for the final time in the regular season on Friday night. The Bucks previously defeated the Mavericks 4-2 on Tuesday evening.

The Bucks fell behind to the Mavericks early in the first period after Ryan Jardine scored at 4:46 and Mike Gurtler scored at 7:10. A.J. Hau put the Bucks on the board at 12:05, when he scored an unassisted goal. Hau cut the Maverick lead to only one goal. However, the Bucks would fall further behind when the Mavericks lit the lamp two more times before the end of the first period giving the Mavericks a 4-1 lead. The Bucks and Mavericks both had 13 shots apiece on net in the frame.

The second period began with a change between the pipes. Torrie Jung replaced Ryan Rondeau who had made 9 saves on 13 shots in the previous period. The Mavericks scored at 1:26, when Brandon Coccimiglio got the puck past the catcher of Jung making the score 5-1. The Bucks battled back in the period starting with David Inman lighting the lamp at the 5 minute mark. Inman was assisted by Neil Trimm and Tyler Stitt. Matt Boyd scored a powerplay goal 9:58 from Rusty Masters and Matt Hanson. The Bucks offense was still hard at work as the second period was drawing to a close. Neil Trimm scored a goal as the powerplay expired with only 54 seconds left in the frame making the score 5-4 Mavericks. Kyle Sibley and Kyle Mariani had assists on the goal that cut the Mavericks lead to only one goal.

The final period of the game saw both teams continuing to battle one another. Brandon Coccimiglio scored his third goal of the game for the Mavericks at 10:37, giving them a 6-4 lead. The Bucks pulled Torrie Jung to add an extra attacker in the final minutes of the game. However, Mavericks forward Ryan Jardine was able to hit the empty net at 18:30 halting the Bucks comeback.

The Laredo Bucks are almost halfway done in their seven game road trip. They will face the Texas Brahmas on Wednesday December 28th before travelling to Allen for two games, Friday December 30th and Saturday December 31st. The Bucks' next home game will be Saturday January 7th at 7:30pm, when they face the Americans at the LEA.
