Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
ALLEN, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (11-12-4) fell to the Allen Americans (16-5-5) in hard fought 7-3 loss on Friday night. Aaron Lee, David Marshall and Jason Dixon each scored for the Bees.
Allen opened the scoring at the 11:04 mark of the first period as Nick Layton came racing down the ice and beat Killer Bees goalie John Murray between the legs.
The Bees quickly responded tying the game at one at 16:38 as Aaron Lee scored his 14th goal of the season with an assist to Nicolas Rioux. Lee brought the puck into the zone and took a shot from the top of the circles that was initially blocked but Lee scored on the second opportunity as the puck bounced back to him.
Allen retook the lead at the 18:07 mark as Brian McMillin forced the puck to the back of the net off the near side post.
The Killer Bees threatened to score the entire first period and looked as if they might have tied the game late in the first as a Tomas Klempa shot rang of the post after beating goalie Rejean Beauchemin.
An injury to John Murray forced Wylie Rogers into action for the second period of play.
Allen scored first in the second period to increase their lead to two as Keith Johnson scored on the power-play for the Americans.
The Bees responded at the 13:58 mark as David Marshall deflected an AJ Mikkelsen shot to the back of the net. For Marshall it was his eight goal of the season in just 11 games.
Allen would respond with a late second period goal to maintain their two goal advantage.
In the third period Jason Dixon would strike the back of the net for the Bees but three Allen goals (including an empty netter) would secure their victory.
The Killer Bees will be off for Christmas before returning to the ice on December 30th at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, Ariz. to face the Arizona Sundogs.
