Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pelicans announced today the Buck O'Neill traveling exhibit is now open for public display at the T.T. Wentworth Museum located at 330 Jefferson St in downtown Pensacola.

The exhibit is located on the second floor of the museum and will remain there until Monday, June 6 when it will then be moved to Pelican Park for the Pelicans Tribute to Negro League Baseball on Sunday, June 19. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The exhibit arrived in town last week from its home at the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City, MO. It travels to several baseball teams throughout the year and is usually booked months in advance.

O'Neill, who became famous with the Kansas City Monarchs, will be present at the game on June 19 to speak to the fans and sign Monarch replica hats, baseballs stamped with his likeness as well as his book throughout the game.

The first African-American coach in Major League Baseball, O'Neill joined the Chicago Cubs in 1962. Today, he chairs the Negro league Baseball Museum Board of Directors and serves on the Veterans' Committee of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Commemoration is scheduled for Sunday, June 19 at 6:05 p.m. when the Pelicans face the Coastal Bend Avaitors. This event is in accordance with "Juneteenth," the oldest recognized worldwide celebration of the abolition of slavery in America.
