Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Make sure those dollars are crisp, the couch cushions have been checked, and all those piggy banks have been emptied, Budweiser Buck Night is back on April 25th when the Green Bay Blizzard take on archrival Quad City Steamwheelers. Not only will fans be treated to a game with division implications but $1 beers, sodas, and hotdogs will be available all night long! The Blizzard is on the road this week in South Georgia to take on the Wildcats after demolishing the Manchester Wolves last week at home in a 72-31 rout at U.S. Cellular Field at the Resch Center. The Klement's Racing Sausages from Miller Park including Hot Dog, Polish Sausage, Italian Sausage, Bratwurst, and Chorizo will be making their first ever appearance to a Blizzard game and will take part in all the fun and festivities!
When the Blizzard travels home next week they will prepare for a Quad City team that is ready for the challenge. The Blizzard (2-1) and the Steamwheelers (2-0) have gone back and forth throughout the years trading wins and losses yet the Blizzard always seems to receive the win when it matters most. In 2007, the first meeting of the regular season took place on April 27th in Green Bay and ended with a Blizzard victory. The Blizzard defense, which had been ranked #1 for a majority of the season, held the Steamwheelers to only 14 points for the game as well as three scoreless quarters, an unheard of feat in arena football. DL Jason Hardee, who now starts for the New York Dragons of the AFL, broke a Blizzard single game record for sacks, totaling three sacks during the contest. The Green Bay offense, lead by QB Zeke Dixon, put together their highest offensive output to that point in the season.
When the Blizzard traveled to Quad City for the second meeting of the season, the Blizzard had made some changes. QB Gino Guidugli, who now plays for the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League, was the man taking the snaps under center and had turned the Blizzard offense into a offensive juggernaut. The Blizzard however could not overcome the Quad City offensive production of QB JJ Raterink, who the Blizzard will face again this season, set a Steamwheelers single game record of 9 passing TD's during the contest.
Although the Blizzard and Stemwheelers' series was even at 1 for the 2007 regular season, the post season series is the one that matters most. In a thrilling come from behind victory, the Blizzard defeated the Steamwheelers 39-34 taking the go ahead lead with :20 seconds remaining in the game after trailing 21-0 at one point in the second quarter. WR Gerald Harris sparked the Blizzard come back with a 56-yard missed field goal return as time expired in the first half only to outdo himself to start the second half with a 56-yard kickoff return touchdown. The Blizzard would go on to advance to the American Conference Championship game for the second consecutive season.
With a Buck Night, the Klement's Racing Sausages, and a game with serious division implications, April 25th will surely be a game fans will not want to miss.
