Buccaneers Stomp Stampede in Shootout; 4-3 Final Score

The Des Moines Buccaneers began 2009 - 2010 regular season play tonight with a road game against the Sioux Falls Stampede.  The Buccaneers were able to stomp the Stampede in a shoot out with a final score of 4-3.

The Bucs would come out strong in the first period with a Ryan Walters goal at the 2:58 mark in the period putting the Bucs ahead 1-0.  The Stampede answered back with a late period goal to tie the game going into the second intermission.  Goalie Eric Mihalik would stop 12 of 13 shots on goal during the first period.

Connor Brickley would put the Buccaneers back on top with a goal at the 4:52 mark of the second but the Stampede would play catch up with a goal just four minutes later.  Walters would take advantage of a powerplay as he made his shot at 16:38 in the period.  The Buccaneers would end the period on top, 3-2. 

The Stampede would tie the game at 9:15 in the third period.  The Buccaneers wouldn't be able to get a goal past the Stampede's defense so the game was sent to an overtime period.  Neither team was able to score in the 5-minute period.

Des Moines would send four players to the ice for the shootout; Ryan Walters, Chris Stafne and D.J. Vandercook would make it count as the the Buccaneers were able to step it up and defeat their opponents, who would only have one player make his shot.  The final score of the game was 4-3.

The Buccaneers would go 1 for 4 on powerplays and have 20 shots on goal throughout the game.  Goalie Mihalik would record the win putting in 65 minutes in front of the net and stopping 43 of 46 shots on goal.
