Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
EL PASO, Texas -- A steady onslaught of El Paso Diablos hits sent the Grand Prairie AirHogs to a series-opening defeat, with the Diablos pounding out 15 hits and scoring in six of their eight innings, winning 9-4 at Cohen Stadium on Thursday night.
The AirHogs (10-9) took the lead in the first inning on Andres Rodriguez's fielder's choice, but the Diablos (4-16) got that one and one more on some wildness by Lance Janke (0-3). The AirHogs starter walked three straight hitters and threw a wild pitch after a two-out error extended the inning.
Janke left after that frame with an apparent injury, and Mark Herrera allowed a run in the bottom of the second to make it 3-1. Brian Myrow's double in the third pulled Grand Prairie back to within one.
But that was as close as the AirHogs would get, as the Diablos added single runs in the fourth and fifth to extend their lead, and closed it out with four runs in the seventh.
Hitting second and third in the lineup, Bryan Frichter and Brian Joynt were particularly responsible for the El Paso win, going a combined 8-for-11 with four runs scored and five driven in.
Notes: Kory Drew also had four hits for the Diablos...Keanon Simon doubled in the last two AirHogs runs in the ninth...El Paso left another 14 men on base...The AirHogs walked a season-high eight Diablos.
