November 14, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Chilliwack Bruins News Release
The Chilliwack Bruins would like to thank everyone who has helped with our fundraising efforts this season. To date, more than $73,000 dollars has been raised for various local charities and youth clubs.
Bruins Pediatric Centre
Prior to this season the Chilliwack Bruins and Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation announced the official launching of a 10-year partnership. The goal of the partnership is to raise funds to support A Campaign for Health Care Excellence as well as future needs at Chilliwack General Hospital. The Bruins are being recognized for this leadership gift to the campaign with the official naming as part of the Ambulatory Care Department, a special area or 'pod' for pediatric outpatient services is being created. This 'pod' will be housed in the new Bruins Pediatric Centre and will offer clinics for programs such as Juvenile Diabetes, Childhood Obesity and Childhood Asthma. This season, more than $6,000 has been raised for this project. The Bruins would like to thank Steve Hames and Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 for their $5,000 contribution to this project. As well, more than 100 members of Chilliwack Emergency Services and the Fraser Valley Health Authority attended a Bruins game with a portion of each ticket purchased donated to the Bruins Pediatric Centre.
Chilliwack Community Policing
Prior to our November 7th game versus the Edmonton Oil Kings, the Bruins presented Chilliwack Community Policing with a donation of $5,000. Chilliwack Community Policing has been responsible for the organization of parking attendants and ensuring Bruins fans are parked safely and effectively at Prospera Centre during all Bruins home games.
Hub International Barton Insurance Cash For Kids Fund
Every time the Bruins score a goal, Hub International Barton Insurance and the Chilliwack Bruins each donate five dollars to the Cash for Kids Fund. At season's end, the money raised will be split between Chilliwack Minor Hockey, The Rotary Children's Foundation, and the Chilliwack Children's Fund. During the 2007/08 season a total of $2,130 was raised. This season an additional $490 has been raised to date. A special presentation will take place prior to the Bruins Nov. 28 home game.
Bruins Education Fund / Chilliwack Rotary Foundation
The 3rd Annual Chilliwack Rotary / Bruins Meet the Bruins Dinner was held on October 20th. The event, which featured special guests Trevor Linden, Stan Smyl and Pat Quinn raised more than $30,000 which was split equally between the Chilliwack Rotary Foundation, which donated its portion to Chilliwack General Hospital and the Bruins, who put its portion into the Bruin's Player's Fund.
During the Bruins November 11th home game versus the Vancouver Giants the Bruins wore special Remembrance Day jerseys which were auctioned off during the game. A total of $13,700 was raised by this auction for the Bruins Player's Fund.
Chilliwack Minor Hockey / SPCA / Chilliwack Football Club
An estimated $19,000 dollars has been raised for Chilliwack Minor Hockey, the SPCA and the Chilliwack Football Club through 50/50 raffles held at each Bruins home game.
