Bruijsten Sent to Fort Wayne for Futures

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have announced per Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm that the team has traded forward Mitch Bruijsten to the Fort Wayne Komets in exchange for future considerations.

Bruijsten, 24, has suited up in 26 games with the Thunder this season, picking up 6 goals and 15 assists for a total of 21 points. The Nijmegen, Netherlands native was on the Thunder's preseason roster, but after being one of the final cuts, Bruijsten signed with the Mississippi Surge of the SPHL. He played in 20 games while scoring 8 goals and adding four helpers.

Bruijsten was signed by the Thunder from the Surge on December 20th before a game against the Ontario Reign. The University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves graduate is in his first season of pro hockey in North America after spending last season in his native country playing for Eaters Geleen of the Eriedivisie. The deal comes hours before the ECHL trade deadline of 12:00 p.m. PST.

The Thunder return to action this weekend when they take on the Utah Grizzlies on Friday and Saturday during Covanta Energy Easy Being Green weekend. Local businesses and organizations will be on hand to educate fans about eco-friendly products and the first 1,000 fans, ages 18 and older, entering Stockton Arena will receive a free Easy Being Green tote bag.
