Quad City Mallards News Release

TULSA, Okla. (March 9, 2012) - Jared Brown scored at 22 seconds of overtime to give the Quad City Mallards a 4-3 win over the host Tulsa Oilers Friday night. With the victory, the fifth place Mallards improve to 33-24-2 (68 points) and remain two points shy of the fourth and final Turner Conference playoff spot.

Brown buried a centering pass from Mickey Lang- who also scored in regulation- to end a back-and-forth contest.

The Mallards took the lead three times in regulation- only for the Oilers, who earned one point for the sudden death loss, to battle back and tie the game on each occasion.

Ryan Cramer provided the most dramatic of Tulsa's three equalizers by snapping the puck home puck from the slot at 17:19 of the third period, just over four minutes after Jared Lavender's blue line blast put Quad City on top 3-2.

The Mallards had first jumped in front at 2:09 of the first period when Brandon Marino and Justin Chwedoruk- who would assist on each of the Mallards' three regulation goals- broke two-on-none and Marino converted Chwedoruk's cross-crease pass. Just over two minutes later Tyler Fleck's drive from the left point tied the score at one.

The Mallards took the lead for the second time when Lang scored from the slot at 2:05 of the second period. The Oilers again produced a quick response when Gary Steffes jammed the puck over the goal line in a goalmouth scramble at 4:15 of the second.

By scoring the Mallards' opener, Marino lifted his league-leading goal total to 37, reached 81 points for the season- second most in the league- and extended his point-scoring streak to eight games.

The Mallards meet the Oilers again tomorrow night on home ice at 7:05 p.m. The Mallards will welcome area church and youth groups to the i wireless Center for Faith Night tomorrow evening.
