Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, Texas- By the midpoint of the first period The Rio Grande Killer Bees (27-26-7) were looking at a two goal deficit against the Arizona Sundogs (17-32-9) in a game where every point in the standings matter. By the end of the game the Bees scored six unanswered goals that sent them on their way to a 6-2 victory Friday night at the State Farm Arena.

Jason Dixon had a four point night (two goals, two assists) and goaltender John Murray made 35 saves in the win. The win was the Bee's sixth win in their last nine games and put them four points ahead of the Tulsa Oilers in the Berry Conference standings.

Jean-Philipp Chabot and Jesse Perrin put the Sundogs up 2-0 early in the first period when the Bees came out flat against the last place club.

With the first coming to an end the Bees decided they were going to put it away early.

With 4:44 left in the first Aaron Lee collected a rebound that came to the left of Arizona Goaltender Mike Spillane and fired a wrister that cut the deficit to one. The goal was Lee's 30th of the year. 32 seconds later Brady Leavold scored to tie the game at two.

The Bees were far from finished in the first. On a late power play Dan Gendur collected the puck off a faceoff and deked around a Sundog defender and threw the puck on net, it slipped past Spillane where Dixon redirected it into the net to put the Bees up 3-2.

After the first period flurry the Bees did not let up on the gas, Spillane was chased after allowing five goals on 18 shots. Reid Edmondson would cap the scoring with a later power play goal in the third period.

The Bees win combined with a Tulsa loss on Friday propelled them to four points over their Berry Conference rival for the final spot in the playoffs. The Bees will again welcome the Arizona Sundogs Saturday night at the State Farm Arena. Puck drop is at 7:30 pm.
