Bees Come Back to Top Sundogs, 6-2

HIDALGO, TX - After falling behind in the first period, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees responded with six unanswered goals to top the Arizona Sundogs on Friday night at State Farm Arena by a 6-2 final.

With the loss the Sundogs (17-32-9) are eliminated from playoff contention. The win was Rio Grande Valley's (27-26-7) fourth straight over Arizona with the season finale between the two clubs coming Saturday in South Texas.

Rio's Jason Dixon led all skaters with four points - two goals and two assists. Kyle Hood extended his point streak for Arizona to four games with two assists in the contest.

It was a wild first period to start the game as the Sundogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Bees scored three unanswered goals in the final six minutes to take the lead. JP Chabot and Luke Erickson put Arizona on the board. Aaron Lee and Brady Leavold scored 32 seconds apart for the Bees to tie the game. Jason Dixon's power play goal with 1:17 to play made it a 3-2 game.

The Bees extended their lead to 5-2 as Zac Pearson scored 5:47 into period two and Dixon added his second of the game at 10:23.

Reid Edmondson added a late power play goal for the Bees in the third.

John Murray earned the win for the Bees with 36 saves. Mike Spillane took the loss stopping 11 of 16. He was relieved midway through the second period by Scott Reid who finished 11 of 12.

The Sundogs went 1-for-5 on the power play while Rio Grande Valley went 2-for-3.

The Bees and Sundogs meet again on Saturday at 6:30 PM MST. The action can be heard live on Cattle Country 94.3 FM.
