Odessa Jackalopes News Release
Corpus Christi, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes (20-21-4) and Corpus Christi IceRays (19-22-6) needed extra time for the fourth time in seven games this season Friday night, but unlike the last two overtimes, the Jacks were the team who ended up on the winning end by to beating the Rays 3-2 at AmericanBank Center in Corpus Christi.
In the first, Hampus Sjodahl (26) continued is red-hot ways by collecting a Derek Brown' pass in the high slot before sniping it past Graham Hunt at 18:31. For Derek Brown, the assist extended his point streak to 13 games, which ties Ryner Gorowsky's (Fairbanks) NAHL-long 13-game streak earlier in the year.
After Brendan Miller (4) had intercepted a Danny Kiraly pass and beat Jon Flakne on a breakaway to make it 1-1 at 5:54, Kiraly (8) found some redemption when he poked home a power play goal at 13:37 to push Odessa in front, 2-1. The second period saw eight penalties called and five against the Jacks.
Regan Cavanagh (11) waited just 35 seconds to tie the game in the third at 2-2. Neither team would score again in regulation, but Brown (9) would get the game winner just 17 seconds into the extra time to earn the Jacks a 3-2 win.
Jon Flakne (5-1-0) was sharp in the win making 36 saves on 38 shots while Graham Hunt (10-13-4) took his sixth-straight loss making 33 saves on 36 shots.
The Jacks win moved them into a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot in the South with Corpus with five head-to-head matchups to come.
The Odessa Jackalopes are in their fifth season in the North American Hockey League in 2015-16 and 19th in the Permian Basin.
