JOHNSTOWN - The Aston Rebels used a four-goal second period to defeat the Johnstown Tomahawks 5-1 Friday night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena
The Tomahawks got on the scoreboard first when Dante Suffredini finished a one-time pass from Brendan Jaquay for a power play goal. For Suffredini, the goal was his fourth of the season.
In the second period, the Rebels tied the game when West Chester, Pa., native Eric Carreras scored his third with Aston and seventeenth on the season.
Aston gained the advantage four minutes later at 9:19 of the second period when Ryan Cusin roofed a shot past Tomahawks goalie Ryan Glander.
Dean Balsamo gave the Rebels a three goal lead at 16:36 which was quickly followed by a goal from Rebels captain Kristofers Bindulis. Both goals were assisted by Carreras.
Rebels defenseman Gvido Jansons set the final at 5-1 with a wrist shot from the point that found its way past relief netminder Andrew Lindgren. Michael Merulla and Dom Garcia assisted on the goal.
Despite a five-on-three power play opportunity mid-way through the third period, the Tomahawks were unable to solved Rebels goalie Darion Hanson and the Rebels skated away with a 4-1 victory.
Hanson put together a 31-save performance en route to his fourteenth win of the season.
The Tomahawks return to the Cambria County War Memorial Arena Saturday, Feb. 27 for the fourth annual Pucks & Paws game. Fans can bring their friendly dogs to the game for a $5 donation. For more information, log onto JohnstownTomahawks.com. For tickets, visit the War Memorial Arena box office.
