Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA â (Friday, May 6, 2005) â The New Zealand Senior National Team announced this week the 18-man All White squad for the friendly against Australia in London on June 9th. Included on the roster is Richmond Kickers midfielder Tim Brown, a native of Wellington, New Zealand. Brown earned his first international cap on May 31, 2004 in a 3-0 win over the Soloman Islands during the Oceania Football Confederation Nation's Cup Tournament.
"We are pleased to see Tim receiving recognition on the international level," comments Richmond Kickers General Manager Paul Sterbenz. "The timing of this match will not interfere with our league schedule and therefore is a great opportunity for Tim."
"This is well deserved," adds Richmond Kickers Head Coach Leigh Cowlishaw. "Tim has been a consistent performer for the Kickers since his arrival last season. I know he is looking forward to the opportunity."
Brown joined the Kickers during the 2004 season and made his professional debut on July 10, 2004 versus the Atlanta Silverbacks. He broke into the starting lineup soon after when he scored the Kickers only goal in an exhibition match versus Nottingham Forest of the English First Division one week later. Injury forced the central midfielder to the sideline until the last regular season match against Montreal. Most recently, Brown has started and played every minute of the Kickers first four games of the 2005 season and recorded one assist during Richmond's 2-1 win over Toronto on April 30th.
A 2004 University of Cincinnati graduate and soccer standout, Brown completed his collegiate career with the Bearcats as the second leading scorer with 15 points and six goals. He garnered 2004 First Team All-Conference honors while being named a NSCAA Scholar All-America and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. Over four seasons, Brown started all 71 of 71 games played, with 31 points total (12 g, 7 a) and led the team as co-captain for three seasons.
Kofi Nti Cleared To Play
Within the last week, Ghanaian Kofi Nti received his international clearance and appropriate Visa paperwork and will be available for selection by Coach Cowlishaw for this weekend's Montreal match.
Nti's professional experience extends to the Ghana First Division level as the 5'11" midfielder played with FC Nania, 2001-2004. In 2003, he captained the team and was awarded MVP in its first major tournament in Switzerland in which Nania won a bronze metal. In 2004, the team won a silver medal in Germany, during its second outing in Europe. Nti captained the team and won an award as one of the most outstanding midfielders of the tournament. In addition, the Accra Ghana native led Nania to qualify from the second division to the first in August 2004.
In college, Nti led the University of Ghana soccer team to win the University League in 1999. In 2001, he led the same team to win the first West African University games held in Ghana.
