Harrisburg Senators News Release

"I think everyone is really sick of the cold weather. I am looking forward to the baseball season and warmer weather," stated Senators fan Rick Whitcomb of Dillsburg.

Whitcomb's comments were echoed over and over as more than 3,000 fans from Central Pennsylvania showed up for FANFEST 2004 on City Island Saturday. The parade of bad weather systems seemed to step aside for the day as fans poured into the Carousel Pavilion at Commerce Bank Park for fun and autographs.

The autographs were provided by Senators' players, past and present. Harrisburg pitchers Shawn Hill and Chuck Crumpton were on hand as well as the Carroll brothers, Jamey and Wes. All the players except for Jamey appeared on City Island during the 2003 season. Jamey, who arrived with his brother just minutes before the event, spent last season playing for Montreal.

"I thought we were going to get hung up in Cincinnati," said Jamey who flew in Saturday from his home in Evansville, Indiana. "Everything seemed to go smoothly and it was fantastic to see all the fans here. I was able to say hello to a lot of old friends. Even after a season in the major leagues, I still miss this place."

Saturday's FANFEST included mascots Rascal from the Senators and Coco from the Hershey Bears, a magic show, face painting, speed pitch, moonbounce, exotic animals and a jeopardy style game played by the fans. The event also kicked off individual game ticket sales for the 2004 season.

Senators Ticket Manager Tom Wess said that ticket sales were brisk with most attention focused on opening day, the popular voucher books and mini-plans.

The Senators home opener for the 2004 season is Thursday, April 15th against the Altoona Curve here at Commerce Bank Park beginning at 6:35 P.M.
