Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Broome Sports Foundation's annual silent auction kicks off on Friday, Feb. 27 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena as the Binghamton Senators host the Hershey Bears at 7:05 p.m. Bidding for all auction items will begin on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and run through the conclusion of the B-Sens' game against the Rochester Americans on Saturday, Feb. 28. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Tommy Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund.
This year's silent auction features many valuable sports memorabilia items, including hockey and non-hockey items. Signed authentic National Hockey League jerseys highlight the list of available items. The following jerseys are up for auction:
Daniel Alfredsson - Ottawa Senators Martin Brodeur - New Jersey Devils
Denis Hamel - Philadelphia Flyers Dany Heatley - Ottawa Senators
Alexander Ovechkin - Washington Capitals Jason Spezza - Ottawa Senators
Martin St. Louis - Tampa Bay Lightning Jeremy Yablonski - St. Louis Blues
In addition to the NHL jerseys, a game-worn and signed Mattias Karlsson 2009 AHL All-Star jersey will be auctioned. Other B-Sens' memorabilia available include a team-signed helmet, jersey and stick.
The Tommy Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund has provided college scholarships to local graduating high school hockey players since 1987. That year a single $500 scholarship was awarded through the fund. In 2008, a total of $12,000 in scholarship money was awarded to six recipients. The scholarship is named in memory of Tommy Mitchell who passed away in a car accident in route to a hockey game in 1986. Tommy was the son of Senators executive vice president, Tom Mitchell.
