CHICAGO - Brooke Elby has announced her retirement from her professional playing career, accepting a role as the Co-Executive Director for the National Women's Soccer League Players Association.

"It was always going to be a difficult decision when and how to retire, but playing soccer in this league has provided me with so many experiences and opportunities and I am excited to take on my new role as Co-Executive Director," Elby said. "I can't wait to continue working with the players and league to grow the NWSL and I want to thank my teammates, the Red Stars' organization and the fans for a wonderful playing career."

"We are grateful for Brooke's time in Chicago and enjoyed having her here," Red Stars Head Coach Rory Dames said. "She was a great teammate and the ultimate professional. She will be missed within our group, but we are excited for her new role in the NWSLPA and wish her all the best."

Elby, 26, made 54 career appearances in the NWSL. She played for the Boston Breakers and Utah Royals prior to being acquired by Chicago in 2018. Elby made 21 appearances for the Red Stars. In 2019, Elby scored her first and second career goals with, making a career-high 17 appearances in a season.

Elby has been heavily involved with the NWSL Players Association in the past, acting as President in 2019.
