Broncos Starter Throws 11 K Complete Game in 9-3 win Over Dillas

LAREDO, TX - Laredo Broncos starter Luis Arroyo never let the Amarillo Dillas get into any rhythm as he struck out 11 batters in a 9-3 Dillas loss on Thursday night at Veteran's Field in front of 1,132 fans.

Dillas starter Shawn Morrison (4-4) went five innings, gave up two earned runs, allowed four hits, walked three and struck out four. Arroyo (8-4) went all nine innings, allowed only eight hits and two runs while walking three.

Amarillo took a lead in the second inning as Rick Owens Jr. doubled and scored on a Justin Wenger RBI single for a one-run lead. Laredo responded with a run of their own as Randy Rosa reached on a fielder's choice, went to second on a wild pitch, third on a single and scored on an Ivan Reyes RBI double for a 1-1 tie game.

The Broncos scored the go-ahead in the fifth as Arnoldo Ponce walked, went to third on two sacrifice bunts and scored on a Pedro Lopez groundout. Reyes hit a two-run homerun in the sixth, while they scored five more runs in the seventh, including a three-run homerun by Orlando Cruz to take a 9-1 lead.

Amarillo would score in the top of the eighth as Carlos Figueroa and Danny Bravo walked while Gary Schneidmiller singled to score Figueroa. The Dillas scored again in the ninth as Owens scored on another Wenger RBI, but couldn't score again to fall 9-2.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 20-22 on the second-half of the season and 46-46 overall. Friday, the Dillas will take on the Edinburg Coyotes for the opening game of a three-game series at 7:05 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50 pm on 1010 AM The Canyon and online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.

The ULB will play a 100-game schedule between May and August 2007.
