San Angelo Colts News Release

ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana - The San Angelo Colts (21-22) blew a three-run lead twice on Thursday night as the Alexandria Aces (32-12) battled back all game long to eventually defeat the Colts 8-7 and earn a split of the four-game series. The defeat marked the 50th loss for San Angelo, guaranteeing them a below-.500 season.

The Colts took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first off Aces starter Adam Frey, who took a no-decision just as Colts starter Darryll Roque did. Josh Hollingsworth doubled home Jason Diaz, who walked to begin the rally, which featured four walks by Frey. Andres Rodriguez made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly and Jason Crosland scored on a passed ball to give the Colts a 3-0 edge.

However, the Aces evened the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Josh Tranum and a two-run single by Palmer Karr. The Colts regained the lead quickly though, plating two runs in the top of the second on an RBI single by Hollingsworth and a run-scoring double by Madison Edwards.

In the fifth inning, San Angelo extended its lead to 7-3, scoring two runs, one of which was unearned. Billie Hicks picked up an RBI with an infield single and the other run scored on an error by the first baseman Tranum on the same play.

Alexandria began its comeback in the sixth as Karr recorded his third RBI of the night with a run-scoring single to make it 7-4. Neomar Flores (2-6) relieved Roque after the hit and worked out of a jam but eventually took the loss.

In the seventh, Flores surrendered a three-run homer to Selwyn Langaigne, his ninth of the year, to tie the score at 7-7. In the eighth, Evan Cherry hit his first homer of the year, a solo shot off Flores to put the Aces on top for the first time all night, 8-7.

Aces closer Justin Dowdy threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts for his league-leading 24th save. Reliever Juan Ovalles (6-2), who appeared in all four games of this series, recorded the win as he threw a scoreless eighth inning.

The Colts return to Foster Field on Friday to begin their final home series of the year as they continue to battle the Alexandria Aces. First pitch on Friday, which is Throwback Jersey Night sponsored by the Concho Valley Partnership, is set for 7:05 p.m.
