Broncos Split Series With Colts

San Angelo Colts News Release


Laredo, Texas--- For the second time this season, the San Angelo Colts and Laredo Broncos have split a four game series as the home team crushed the Colts 14-5.

The top of the lineup did damage to Colts pitching as Luis Ugueto and Miguel Ortiz collected four hits in seven at-bats while scoring five runs on the night.

Travis Parker was the winning pitcher. He lasted six innings allowing four earned runs.

The Colts jumped out to a four-nothing lead before losing pitcher, Brett Lester, was unable to sustain his success from the previous three innings. The right-hander for the Colts allowed six runs in 3.1 innings pitched while surrendering six walks.

Laredo's offense bursted with a seven-run fourth inning. Luany Sanchez walked to start the inning, and advanced to third on a double by Andres Santos. O.J. Garza knocked in Sanchez with a single and moved Santos to third. Jaime Morales was the next hitter and he hit a sacrifice fly. Laredo loaded the bases with back-to-back walks to Ryan Flynn and Luis Ugueto. With Miguel Ortiz at the plate, Lester threw a wild pitch scoring Garza and moved the runners over another base. Ortiz then walked to load the bases. San Angelo took out their starter as Douglas Brandt began his relief appearance. Mario Mendez knocked in Flynn with a groundout. Argelis Nunez proceeded to reach on a throwing error by shortstop, Butch Ballez, scoring Ugueto and moving Ortiz to third. Luany Sanchez hit a ground ball to third baseman Jason Diaz who tried to get Nunez at second, but the throw went into rightfield allowing Ortiz to score and Nunez to advance. With Andres Santos at the plate, Brandt threw a wild pitch allowing Nunez to score. The seven run inning gave Laredo a seven-four lead.

The Broncos would create more havoc as the team scored five more times in the fifth.

In a losing cause, Jason Landreth went 4-5 on the night while catcher, Hank Lanto, recorded three hits for San Angelo.
