Broncos Executive VP of Business Operations Takes New Role with the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL
June 7, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Swift Current Broncos News Release
SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos announced today that Executive VP of Business Operations, Nathan MacDonald, will be taking on a new role with the Calgary Wranglers of the American Hockey League.
After five seasons with the Broncos, Nathan and his family will be returning to their home city of Calgary with fond memories of their time in the city of Swift Current. "It's been an incredible journey for my family and I in Swift Current. We picked up and moved here without knowing much about the city outside of the Broncos, and we're so glad we did", said MacDonald. "The people of Swift Current are so deeply passionate about their team, and it has been an honour to steward this franchise on behalf of the community. These last few years have flown by, and we feel so lucky that have been a part of this legendary franchise and great city."
Seen as a positive career step for MacDonald, the Broncos Board of Directors is excited to see him move on to the American Hockey League. Chairman of the Board Trent McCleary stated, "while we certainly wish we didn't have to see him go, we are so proud to be able to support Nathan in his career. The Broncos are a development focused organization on and off of the ice, and so this is a success for our overall program". McCleary added, "we now focus our efforts on bringing in the next leader to our organization, with the goal of continuing to move the franchise forward, as well as the next person's career."
While this will leave an important role to be filled for the 2023/24 season, the organization feels they are in a strong position moving forward. "Nathan has led this organization through some challenging years, and will be leaving the operations of the organization in a better place for the next person", stated McCleary. "He has always operated with the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Broncos organization top-of-mind, and now leaves an opportunity for the next leader to come in and add their knowledge and experience, and make it even better."
Optimistic on the Broncos' future, MacDonald holds mixed emotions about moving on from the organization leading into the 2023/24 season. "I couldn't have imagined how great it would be working for the Broncos' board of directors, and alongside the incredible staff we have within this organization", stated MacDonald. "The team on and off the ice is primed and ready to go for some very exciting years ahead. While I'm saddened that I won't get to be a part of the exciting chapter ahead, I feel great about the people within this organization and the leadership from the board of directors, and am excited to know that it is in good hands."
Moving forward the Swift Current Broncos will conduct a thorough search for a suitable replacement for MacDonald's role, as per the organization's governance policies and practices. MacDonald will be staying on until late July 2023 to aid in the transition.
The entire Swift Current Broncos organization wish to thank Nathan MacDonald for his incredible service to the Broncos organization, and for his tireless efforts towards building the franchise for long-term success and sustainability. The Broncos wish Nathan and his family nothing but success and happiness in their future endeavours.
