Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
BRANDON M.B - The Brandon Wheat Kings 3rd period lead fell short with the Swift Current Broncos stormed back to win 7-5 Tuesday.
The game started out well for the Wheat Kings with Brett Hyland scoring 8 minutes into the game to make it 1-0. The Broncos were quick to answer with Grayson Burzynski scoring 45 seconds later to tie the game up at one. The Broncos would then go on a powerplay with 5 minutes remaining in the period. During the powerplay the Wheat Kings would have a chance to clear but Nolan Ritchie's stick got in the way of the clearing allowing Caleb Wyrostok to find Matthew Ward who rifled one top corner passed Carson Bjarnason to give the Broncos their first lead of the game.
In the second period the Broncos would go back on the powerplay extending their lead. Wyrostok played the puck to Braeden Lewis who found Josh Davies open in the slot to give the Broncos a 3-1 lead. The Wheat Kings would get some powerplays of their own later on. First it was Nate Danielson scoring off the left side circle cutting the Broncos lead to one. Then 2:39 later the Wheat Kings would get another powerplay with Brett Hyland scoring his 2nd of the game and 19th in his last 21 games to tie the game up at 3. With under a minute remaining in the 2nd frame Dawson Pasternak would add another powerplay goal restoring the Wheat Kings lead making it 4-3 heading into the 3rd period.
In the third the Broncos turned it on. First it was Caleb Wyrostok finding Brady Birnie in the crease to tie it at 4. Then Birnie would add another to give the Broncos a 5-4 lead with over 16 minutes remaining. The Wheat Kings would go on another powerplay with a chance to tie it but would surrender a shorthanded goal from Connor Hvidston to give the Broncos a 6-4 lead. Josh Filmon would add to the lead with his 33rd of the year to make it 7-4. Wheat Kings forward Anthony Wilson would make things interesting scoring his 6th of the year off a great pass from Kayden Sadhra-Kang to make it 7-5 but in the end it wouldn't be enough with the Broncos winning 7-5.
