Brockton Tops Sussex

AUGUSTA, N.J. - Chris Valencia was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and Clyde Williams drove in three runs as Brockton topped Sussex 5-3 on Tuesday night at Skylands Park.

Williams' two-run home run in the top of the first gave the Rox an early 2-0 lead. Derek Kinzler blasted a solo homer in the sixth to extend the Brockton lead to 4-0. Sussex plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Brockton lead to 5-3.

Jeff Long lasted 6 1/3, giving up three runs on seven hits, to get the win for Brockton. Jerry Dunn pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 18th save of the season. Sussex starter Mike Schellinger gave up four runs (three earned) over six innings to take the loss.

John Urick was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the loss for Sussex.

Sussex and Brockton return to Skylands Park on Wednesday for a 7:05 p.m. game.
