Kansas City Brigade News Release

KANSAS CITY - The Brigade took another step in establishing itself in the community as the second-year Arena Football franchise today committed $14,000 to Osawatomie, Kan., flood relief. Majority owner Chris Likens stopped at the Dick's Sporting Goods on 119th and Strangline Rd. in Olathe this morning during a donation collection effort broadcast live on Q104 KBEQ to make the Brigade's gift.

A majority of the team's contribution - $9,000 - came directly from supportive fans who donated that exact total amount in exchange for "black out" t-shirts commemorating the event at the Brigade's first-ever playoff game on June 30 at Kemper Arena. The remaining $5,000 dollars was given by the Helping Hand Foundation, the official charity of the Kansas City Brigade.

A check will be presented by members of the Brigade to residents of the southeast Kansas community in Miami County at the recently rescheduled Osawatomie Fourth of July Celebration, which will double as a Flood Relief and Benefit Dance, this Saturday night, July 14, at 6:00 PM.

A fund for flood victims has been established at the First Option Bank, 601 Main St., Osawatomie, KS 66064. Checks can be made payable to The Salvation Army Osawatomie Flood. Q104 will be live on remote again tomorrow from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. at the same Dick's Sporting Goods in Olathe to collect supplies, a list of which can be found here.

Thousands of residents were urged to evacuate beginning July 1 as the Pottawatomie River, which borders the town to the south, and the Marais des Cygnes River, which borders the town on the north, looked to overflow after days of rain. Many families have been allowed to return to their homes as inspection crews continue to assess safety issues in the area.
