Orlando Predators News Release

Orlando, Fla. (July 12, 2007) - Orlando Predators head coach JAY GRUDEN started the rebuilding process for the 2008 season by resigning CHAZ MURPHY to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Murphy, 6-4, 252, became the first veteran free agent signee for the 2008 season. He appeared in seven games for the Predators in 2007. He recorded 7.5 tackles with three quarterback sacks, an interception, and two pass defenses. Murphy missed nine games with assorted injuries.

"Chaz was a big play guy who unfortunately missed a lot of the season with a hamstring injury," Gruden said. "Hopefully we'll have him for the whole season next year."

Under AFL rules, teams are in a exclusive period where they may only sign their own free agents. Murphy was the first Predators free agent to resign. The team has seven other veterans under multi-year contracts, including quarterback SHANE STAFFORD, FB/LB MARLON MOYE-MOORE and ADT Defensive Player of the Year GREG WHITE. Gruden hopes to sign several more veteran free agents in the next 10 days.
