Brian Stokes Signed by Diamondbacks

The Camden Riversharks are pleased to announce that relief pitcher Brian Stokes has been signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. The former major leaguer will report to the Class AAA Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League.

Stokes has been an integral part of the Camden bullpen this season appearing in 31 games, posting a 3.47 ERA with a team-high 11 saves. He allowed just one run in his final 18 appearances with the ‚¬ËœSharks.

"The best part of my experience during my Riversharks days was [going] from the worst team to becoming the best team in the second half so far," Stokes said. "That's a lesson in itself never to give up. Thanks to all the fans and to the Riversharks, good luck."

The 31-year-old has enjoyed five years in the big leagues, with his first appearance coming in 2006 as a member of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Stokes enjoyed his best season in 2008 with the New York Mets when he appeared in 69 games and had a 3.97 ERA.

The Camden Riversharks are members of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Since 2001, the Riversharks have hosted all of their home games at Campbell's Field, located along the city's waterfront. The 2011 season, the club's 11th, is presented by Wawa. The Riversharks next homestand begins August 6th vs. the Road Warriors through August 11th and includes Star Wars Night, Medical Professionals Night, and Philadelphia Night.
